Laser Dentistry Helps Prevent And Conquer Gum Disease

Submitted by: Dr. Vito Clarizio

Gum disease (also known as periodontal disease) is a condition that a large percentage of Americans will deal with sometime in their lifetime. In fact the percentages of adults who have some form of gum disease have been reported to be 80% or higher. And because periodontal disease does not have any symptoms until it is already doing damage, the majority of people who have gum disease aren t even aware of it.

Once the problem is discovered, the solutions for stopping the damage have generally been techniques that require scraping or cutting and suturing of the gum tissue. That is, until laser surgery entered the picture. Now, by using Laser Periodontal Treatment (LPT) and specifically a procedure called LANAP (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure), gum disease at any stage can be successfully treated and prevented from recurring.

Since periodontal disease is a bacterial infection in the gum tissue that covers your jawbone and surrounds your teeth, if the infection is not treated and stopped from continuing to grow, the result can be loss of gum tissue, jawbone density and even teeth. In the past, the only solutions to gum disease were a process called scaling and root planing or gum surgery where incisions were made in order to get into the infected areas and then stitches were placed after the process was done. Now, however, a laser in the hands of a highly trained dentist can stop periodontal disease in its tracks and help prevent it from recurring because the laser is used to disturb the healthy tissue which creates re-growth and reconnection to the tooth and jawbone.

Because the laser fiber that is used is so small (about the thickness of three hairs) it can easily be placed into small areas between your gum tissue and teeth, getting into areas that could be harder to treat with traditional methods. And by using a pulsing laser, it differentiates between diseased tissue and healthy tissue thus destroying the bacteria and infected areas and leaving the healthy tissue intact and even causing re-growth. Because of the reattachment of gum tissue to teeth, gum recession is reduced and the teeth roots are protected from being vulnerable to dental decay.

There are basically four steps to the LANAP process:

1.As a dentist who is certified to do the procedure, I use a probe to determine the depth of a pocket of infection.

2.I then use the laser to remove any diseased tissue while the heat from the laser kills any bacteria in the area.

3.Using an ultrasonic scaler, along with special hand instruments, any existing tartar will be removed from the root of the teeth that are surrounded by the infected gum tissue.

4.Before the pocket of infection is closed, the laser will be used again to ensure that all disease and bacteria have been removed.

The process is pain-free and extremely effective for removing the infection without destroying or injuring the healthy tissue surrounding the infected area. The results that are achieved are longer-lasting than traditional methods of treating periodontal disease. In fact, the majority of patients who receive laser treatments for gum disease still experience positive results even five years later.

While periodontal disease, once it occurs, can never be cured, it can be stopped in its tracks and prevented from further development with the use of laser gum treatment and the Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure.

Read More About:

byAlma Abell

Losing a tooth is a very upsetting experience for most people. They have to face the process of having their tooth removed and then look at the hole in their mouth. It’s even worse if it’s one of their front teeth. However, Dental Implants Kalamazoo MI can effectively replace their tooth. Eventually, no one will be able to tell that they lost it.

It usually takes about six to eight weeks for a jawbone to heal after a tooth extraction. At that time a dentist can insert a titanium implant into the jaw. Before doing this, the dentist will take a digital x-ray to locate any nearby tooth roots or nerves. This allows him to insert it at the best possible location. Titanium is the same metal used to make artificial hips and knees. It is very rare that a person’s body will reject it.

It’s best that Dental Implants Kalamazoo MI be inserted as soon as possible. Once the jaw doesn’t have to support a tooth, it starts too weaken. It looses size and density. Eventually it will not be able to support a dental implant. If the patient still wants to have an implant inserted, an oral surgeon would have to perform a bone graft to augment the bone. Click here for quality dental implants.

After about eight weeks, the dentist places a crown on top of the implant. At that point the implant and crown are as strong and function as the original tooth. The patient can clean it the way they would any other tooth. With proper care, it will last for many decades.

Dental implants are also used to stabilize dentures. People are relieved to hear that they won’t have to worry about their dentures slipping or falling out when they eat or speak in public. The dentist inserts implants at several places in their lower and upper jaw. Once the jaw has healed they are topped with smooth metal balls. There are slots on the bottom of the dentures that match the location of the balls. Each morning the denture wearer takes clean dentures and pops them on the balls. They stay securely in place all day.

Bar Soap Vs. Body Wash. Know The Differences}

Submitted by: Jones Alana

Everyone wants to be clean but really which is the best option? The bar soap vs. body wash debate only grows stronger as the bar and liquid up their game. Seeing the commercials it would be easy to assume that people showering are having the best time of their lives. Not only do they seem to be having fun, but they act so refreshed afterwards. So is it better to soap up with a bar or with body wash?

Choosing the Right Soap

When people go to the store they can be overwhelmed with the amount of options for soap. It can be in a bar or in a body wash, but there are several types of soap available – and in all different scents, too! There are soaps for people with damaged skin, dry skin, burnt skin, pale skin…and, of course, grimy skin. Both types of soap have the ability to clean the skin thoroughly. Its just some types of soap does a little more than simply cleanse.

A person that has sensitive skin may be looking for soap that can help decrease the dryness. This can be done with both a bar of soap or body wash. It comes down to what is in the soap. Ingredients such as oatmeal and aloe are great for dry skin and can be very helpful in improving skin quality. Sometimes it really comes down to a personal preference when determining which type of soap to use.

Secrets to Perfect Skin

Everyone has their secrets to perfect skin, again, it is all based on personal needs. A person dealing with a sunburn may use a different type of body wash than they normally do just to help curb the burning, itching sensation of the burn. To have perfect skin people have to give their skin what it needs: moisture.

To help decrease the chance for fine lines, wrinkles, and even acne, men and women should use high quality soap. Soap that leaves behind residue will dry out the skin and block pores. This leaves skin open to unhealthy options. Washing skin regularly will lead to healthier skin that shines bright and glows. It will also diminish the appearance of wrinkles and pimples.

Body Wash Hydrates (But So Does Bar Soap)

While people can weigh the benefits of bar soap vs. body wash it can still be difficult to make a final decision. Of course, price and familiarity helps. Learning what other people have to say about the soap can help weigh the decision more fairly. A bar of soap is easier to travel with, but body wash will have more conditioning properties due to its consistency.

Parents looking for soap for their children may want to use body wash since it doesnt burn as much if it gets in a childs eyes. However, there are bars of soap that promote this use, too. Both forms of soap can have ingredients such as rose oil or lavender that help smooth the skin. Both will leave people feeling refreshed.

To determine which form of soap is right, think about what the soap needs to do. If removing dirt is the only requirement then either the bar or wash will do the job. However, if people need extras such as adding moisture, correcting skin issues, or dealing with skin problems, then their decision gets harder. In most situations, body wash is going to offer more additives and solutions than a simple bar of soap.

The bar soap vs. body wash debate is a personal one. Go with what you need and what works best for you. If thats a bar, great, if its a wash, thats fine, too.

2. Maintenance of Oral Hygiene:

It is vital that you keep your mouth clean and maintain complete oral hygiene. You should make sure that you brush your teeth every night and morning after a dental implant surgery. However, you should be very gentle while doing so. If the bleeding is minimal then you will need to do salt water washes by swishing it around in your mouth, regularly. These salt-water rinses should be done around 2 to 3 times in a day.

3. Activities after the dental implant surgery:

After a dental implant surgery, it is necessary that you take sufficient bed rest. Any sort of bending, straining, lifting or other such stressful activities will only cause increased swelling and bleeding in your teeth and gums. Reduce the amount of normal food and start taking liquids more. Any sort of exercises should be completely avoided for at least a full week after the surgery.

4. Application of ice in case of swelling:

In case of swelling and bleeding from the teeth or gums, it is necessary that you immediately apply ice packs to it. You can either suck on ice cubes or fill zipper ice bags with ice crushed well. You can also place two ice packs in handkerchiefs and place on either sides of your jaw or area of bleeding.

You can apply ice packs to the affected regions if there is persistent swelling and bleeding. The ice packs will numb the area and reduce the swelling. If the bleeding does not stop, you must need to visit any of the dental hospital in Ahmedabad that expertise in the dental implant.

5. Diet after a dental implant surgery:

After a dental implant surgery, you should consume only nourishing foods that will be good for your health. Avoid junk food, spicy foodstuffs, oily and salty food. You can intake liquid or pureed food like soups, porridges, puddings, yoghurts, curd, and milk shakes. Don’t try to chew your food rigorously. Also avoid rice, foods rich in carbohydrates like potatoes, popcorns, hardened nuts, sunflower seeds, etc.

By following all the above-mentioned tips, you will soon be on the way to recovery in no time with excellent and pearly white teeth.
